  National Science Day

National Science Day is celebrated in India every year on February 28 to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by the great Indian physicist Sir C.V. Raman in 1928. For this groundbreaking discovery, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930, making India proud on the global stage.

The Government of India declared February 28 as National Science Day in 1986 to honor this achievement and to promote scientific spirit among the people, especially the youth. The day is celebrated in schools, colleges, universities, and scientific institutions with seminars, exhibitions, science fairs, quiz competitions, and public speeches.

Each year, a specific theme is chosen to highlight the role of science and technology in solving modern-day challenges. The day serves as a platform to encourage scientific thinking, innovation, and awareness about the contributions of science in our daily lives.

National Science Day is not just a celebration of one man’s contribution but a tribute to the spirit of inquiry and curiosity. It reminds us that science is the key to development and progress. By nurturing scientific temper among students and citizens, India can move closer to becoming a knowledge-based and self-reliant nation.
